Changing Space and Time with Music

This made me cry.
Human beings can bring such joy and beauty into the world.
This is beautiful. Simply beautiful.

Sunday Afternoons

Quiet Sunday Afternoons
With the balcony door open
And a cool breeze
And rest

Lunch with Friends

It's good to have friends over.
Cooking, eating, laughing and talking.
These things are important.

When a baby says Hello

A little boy in a pram said Hi to me on the street today.
He smiled and waved as his mother moved him along.
I looked at him and waved and we acknowledged each other.

Two strangers. 30 years or so between us.
And we connected with a simple Hello.

Friends in Restaurants

There's an Italian restaurant by work run by a Korean couple.
The man - thin, tall, glasses, pony tail - wears a Foreigner Jacket through winter.
One day I asked him if he was a fan and he said he was.
I told him my husband was a big fan too.
And he said, "Is your husband that old?"

Since then he smiles very broadly when I go in for lunch.
I know now that he has traveled to Cuba and India, loves rock music from the 70s and 80s and thinks the music today has "no craft".

He knows that I am Indian and from the South.
We will get to know each other a little more as time goes by.

Amazing Grace

The Subway Musician I stopped to listen to was playing again today.
Amazing Grace on his guitar.
I stopped again to listen.
And was reminded of grace, and love, and moments when I felt more connected with God.

He noticed me... and maybe my glistening eyes.
Asked me... over his playing and across the station if I was OK.
I said I was.
He said I didn't need to lie. It was OK not to be OK.

Then he played another song. Something about Someone watching over you and not worrying.
I thought it was very kind of him.
Very kind to take a moment to try and comfort a stranger on the subway.
I thought he showed much grace and goodness.
And I thanked him.

Ave Maria

Two Decembers ago a young man died suddenly.
The next morning I walked through the tunnel on the subway to volunteer at the Toy Market.
The musicians at Queen's Park - a violinist and an accordion player - were playing Ave Maria.
It seemed fitting.

Welcoming Party

Every evening at Downsview a little Cocker Spaniel waits. He is on a long leash, on the other end of which is an older man. Both of them wait. A younger man comes through the exit and the little black and white dog is ecstatic! So is the younger man. They meet like this every evening. And every evening they are happy.

Subway Musicians

On my way home today I heard the most beautiful music at the station. A young musician was playing a classical piece on his guitar. I stopped and listened. He played with such emotion. Such poetry.
I thanked him when he had finished his piece and dropped some money in his case.
He smiled and thanked me and wished me a good day.
